Metals such as stainless steel, titanium and titanium alloys, are frequently employed as biomedical materials. They are mostly inert in terms of bone-bonding, and inferior in blood compatibility. Though titanium oxide layers favor to form bonds with living bone, the preparation routes largely control their properties. Summary will be given for the varied chemical treatments and their effects of apatite deposition as a key factor of the bone-bonding behavior. In addition, some titanium oxide particles and layers of titanium compounds with organic groups are effective on diminishing blood clotting. Their preparation is also presented.
