Dr. Yao was born on July 6, 1982 in Fujian Province. He is Associate Professor of the Materials Science and Engineering. He held a B.S. degree in Materials Chemisty (2004) from Chongqing University, and continued his graduate study at Xiamen University for his M. S. degree and later for his D. Eng. degree in Materials (2010). During the studying, he had been supported by the third Xiamen University Excellent Doctor’s Degree Dissertation Project, and won the title of CASC, Zhuang Shaohua award and First-class award for postgraduate on science and research.
In September 2010, he became a teacher of College of Materials, Xiamen University, and the major teaching is Mechanical Drawing. He focuses his efforts on development of functional ceramic thin films in optoelectronic fields. Recently, he has developed a novel technique based on melt spinning of precursor to produce continuous freestanding SiC films. The films exhibit several advantages such as wide band gap, good radiation resistance, high thermal conductivity, superior mechanical strength and chemical inertness. These unique properties endow SiC films with great potential for applications in the power microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) in harsh environments, high-temperature electronic and optoelectronic devices applications.
Dr. Yao has been the P.I. or Co P.I. of research programs supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Doctoral Program of Higher Education, the Aeronautical Science Foundation of China, the Science and Technology Program of Fujian Province, the Knowledge Innovation Program of Shenzhen City and the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities. He has won the Fujian Lujiaxi Science Education Foundation award, authored more than 19 research papers that have been published in journals, and 9 papers published in conference proceedings. Moreover, he is the inventor of 17 patents. “The important thing in life is to have a great aim, and the determination to attain it.” will encourage him every now and then to work hard.
